FTC Commissioner Phillips calls for national data breach law, discusses FTC authority on privacy

Federal Trade Commissioner Noah Joshua Phillips advocated for a “national data breach law” at an event Thursday, while also discussing issues around giving the Federal Trade Commission more authority on regulating privacy.

Phillips, a Republican who was confirmed by the Senate last year, said at a Brookings Institution event on online consumer privacy that “one of the best things we can do, if not the best thing we can do for privacy, is have a national data breach law.”
