Key Senate Republican ‘comfortable’ with greater authorities for FTC in emerging data legislation

Prospects for “strong” federal privacy and data security legislation -- allowing the Federal Trade Commission to craft rules and issue civil fines as part of enforcement efforts -- were buoyed as the GOP head of a key Senate subcommittee said he would be “comfortable” granting the FTC such authorities.
