House Financial Services passes narrow consumer breach-notice measure

The House Financial Services Committee today cleared a data-breach notification bill by Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO) that would require federal agencies to implement consumer notice rules for financial firms -- a narrow measure that still represents Congress' first direct legislative response to the 2017 Equifax hack.

The committee approved a substitute amendment that Luetkemeyer offered today, on a 32-20 vote.
