FBI nominee calls for ‘balance’ in encryption policy, discusses cyber objectives

Christopher Wray, President Trump’s nominee to head the FBI, told senators on Wednesday that strong encryption technology poses “one of the most difficult issues facing the country,” and that he would try to find a “balance” between privacy and law enforcement on access to encrypted communications.

Finding such a balance was a frequently stated -- and elusive -- goal of fired FBI Director James Comey, and Wray acknowledged “I don’t know what the solution is” when pressed on the issue...
