Divided FCC approves order updating data breach reporting requirements
The Federal Communications Commission today approved new rules around data breach reporting requirements for carriers, updating the definition of “breach” and what must be reported, while eliminating a mandatory waiting period for notifying consumers.
The new rules were approved on a 3-2 vote. Commission Republicans opposed the proposal as expanding FCC authority in violation of Congress’ 2017 action under the Congressional Review Act to overturn a 2016 FCC order on privacy that addressed some of the same issues as...
