‘America COMPETES’ bill clears House on partisan vote, setting up conference with Senate on tech policy issues

House passage of a China-focused technology and competition bill is being praised by industry and the Biden administration, but partisan fights over the measure may presage a complicated conference with the Senate to craft a final version.

The “America COMPETES” measure passed the House today on a near-party line 222-210 vote, and will be conferenced with a Senate version approved on a bipartisan 68-32 vote in that chamber. Conferees will have to work out a compromise that can pass the...
