Support grows for U.S. investment in 5G technology seen as crucial for cybersecurity; path unclear

Policymakers and analysts are offering support for a more robust industrial policy aimed at helping the U.S. establish a foothold in the marketplace for fifth-generation networking, amid recognition that supply-chain security risks associated with certain companies won’t disappear.

“There is a strong case for a more activist industrial policy by the United States,” Ian Wallace, director of the Cybersecurity Initiative at the think tank New America, told Inside Cybersecurity, adding “that does not necessarily mean promoting 'national champions.'”
