National security group urges EPA to rethink new cyber requirement for water operators, engage in collaboration

The Foundation for Defense of Democracies says the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency “misses the mark” with a proposed regulatory move on cybersecurity for water operators and is reiterating its call for a government-industry collaboration to establish cyber standards, accompanied by federal grants to help pay for the effort.

“While the EPA’s cybersecurity support for the water sector is sorely needed, the agency would greatly benefit from collaborating with water sector experts,” FDD said in an analysis posted Monday.
