Industry, digital rights groups offer dueling views on approach to security in FTC ‘commercial surveillance’ proposal

Industry groups are pointing the FTC toward existing standards and pending legislation as the commission considers security and other aspects of a “commercial surveillance” proposal, while digital rights activists are urging regulators to address the potential for cyber attacks to expose vast amounts of sensitive consumer data collected by companies.
