House bills aim to help rural telecoms identify and remove supply-chain threats

Lawmakers in the House are taking initial steps to help smaller rural telecommunications providers access declassified information on supply-chain threats and fund the replacement of suspect equipment in their networks.

“Many of these providers don’t have an army of consultants with the necessary security clearances to understand what vulnerabilities exist and how to inform their purchasing decisions,” Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR), ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said Friday at a communications and technology subcommittee hearing.
