Energy Dept.’s cyber office launches grant program to boost security at smaller electric utilities

The Department of Energy is kicking off a grant and technical assistance cybersecurity program for rural, municipal and small investor-owned utilities with an Aug. 18 stakeholder listening session, under an initiative that leverages funding from the 2021 infrastructure modernization law.

The program is led by DOE’s Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response, or CESER, and taps $250 million from the infrastructure law, according to an announcement on Monday.
