Cybersecurity makes fleeting appearances at rancorous House Homeland Security budget hearing

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ message on targeted funding increases to implement new cybersecurity authorities was eclipsed by heated debate over border security at the House Homeland Security Committee’s fiscal 2024 DHS budget hearing, the first session with the DHS chief since Republicans assumed control this year.

Several committee members broached cyber at the Wednesday hearing, including Homeland Security cyber subcommittee Chairman Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) who said cyberspace “is another border we have to secure.”
