Privacy advocates tout data security controls, tougher enforcement in urging House action

The Center for Democracy and Technology is calling for a national data privacy law by arguing the current legal and regulatory structure is outdated and harms online consumers, and is offering draft legislation that would require “reasonable” data security, allow consumers the right to have data deleted and expand current federal enforcement authority in issuing fines for first-time violators.
