NIST seeks comment on encryption tools resilient to quantum computing

The National Institute of Standards and Technology is requesting public comment on its plan to approve two schemes for the creation of “stateful hash-based signatures,” cryptography tools useful in the advent of quantum computing, which is expected to be able to decode current encryption methods.

The deadline is April 1 for commenting on NIST's plan, which would promulgate the LMS [Leighton-Micali Signature] and XMSS [extended Merkle Signature] schemes developed by the standards-setting Internet Engineering Task Force, according to...
