Homeland security panel approves nomination of Kirstjen Nielsen for DHS chief

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Tuesday approved the nomination of Kirstjen Nielsen to lead the Department of Homeland Security on an 11-4 vote.

Sens. Tom Carper (D-DE), Kamala Harris (D-CA), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), and Gary Peters (D-MI) voted against the nomination.

While the full Senate vote on Nielsen has not yet been scheduled, Committee Chairman Ron Johnson (R-WI) said in a statement that he hoped the Senate would vote on Nielsen’s nomination “as quickly as possible."...
