Senate panel approves self-driving car bill with package of cyber amendments

The Senate Commerce Committee has passed a comprehensive bill on self-driving cars, incorporating a number of amendments on developing cybersecurity recommendations, improving supply chain security, and protecting consumer privacy.

The Senate panel approved by unanimous voice vote the “AV START” Act, a bipartisan measure developed by committee Chairman John Thune (R-SD) and Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI). The measure -- introduced last week -- directs automakers to develop cybersecurity plans for consumer vehicles.
