Trump budget offers a buyer's approach to securing federal and critical networks

Money talks, and President Trump's budget unveiled last week presents a strategy for the government to buy its way toward cybersecurity, while downplaying the role of standards-setting organizations for securing data and networks.

The fiscal 2018 plan offers a boost to cybersecurity products and services for the Department of Homeland Security and the Pentagon, while proposing a cut in spending by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, which has been at the forefront in forging standards and “best practices”...
