House panel raises concerns over loss of cyber expertise amid agency workforce cuts at China hearing

House Homeland Security ranking member Bennie Thompson (D-MS) criticized the Trump administration's efforts to cut federal workers with cyber expertise at a hearing, arguing recent layoffs will make it harder for agencies to respond to cyber threats from China.

“The problem is, congressional Republicans’ tough talk on China is at odds with the Trump administration’s actions, which are hurting America’s ability to counter threats from the CCP,” Thompson said in his opening statement at the March 5 hearing.
