Senate appropriators support Commerce Dept. request to create centralized ICT supply chain office

The Senate Appropriations Committee has endorsed a Commerce Department request to create a new office that will carry out supply chain reviews for IT and telecom companies under a controversial rulemaking concerning foreign transactions.

The January 2021 rulemaking for the information and communications technology and services sector set up a process for Commerce to review foreign transactions across six categories and make decisions on prohibition or mitigation.
