NIST proposal for cybersecurity labeling moves away from tiered model to binary label with layered approach

Cybersecurity labeling plans for consumer Internet of Things products and software are starting to take shape after months of consensus building among stakeholders, as NIST moves to fulfill a key element of the May cyber executive order tasking the agency with developing criteria that could be used in two pilot programs.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology held a workshop Thursday to provide updates on their plans and describe what’s next for the labeling efforts.
