FERC considers creating two incentive programs for utilities to strengthen bulk power system security

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is exploring the creation of incentive rate treatments for utilities that go beyond current reliability standards in their security programs, or implement controls from the NIST cybersecurity framework.

The commission approved a notice of proposed rulemaking last month outlining the two approaches and establishing what utilities need to do to meet the voluntary requirements.
