Sens. Cotton, Risch raise national security concerns to Commerce Dept. over TP-Link routers

Sens. Tom Cotton (R-AR) and James Risch (R-ID) are urging Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to ban sales of TP-Link equipment in the United States, raising national security concerns over the company’s ties to the Chinese Communist Party.

“Chinese state actors have exploited TP-Link small and home office (SOHO) networking devices — including Wi-Fi routers, cellular gateways, and mobile hotspots — to wage cyber-attacks in the United States,” the lawmakers say in a May 14 letter to Lutnick.
