Senate panel advances bill to conduct study on consumer router national security risks

The Senate Commerce Committee has passed a bill directing the National Telecommunications and Information Administration to conduct a study on the security risks of consumer routers developed or manufactured in countries considered threats to national security.

The “Removing Our Unsecure Technologies to Ensure Reliability and Security Act” from Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM) was approved by voice vote at a March 12 markup, along with bills on the semiconductor supply chain, broadband and spectrum. ...
