Senate FedRAMP modernization bill moves forward with tweaks to address ‘foreign interests’

The Senate Homeland Security Committee has passed legislation to codify and modernize the General Services Administration’s FedRAMP program, after the panel’s bipartisan leaders reached agreement on compromise language addressing “foreign interests.”

The committee voted Wednesday to advance the bill with a bipartisan substitute amendment from Chairman Gary Peters (D-MI) and ranking member Rob Portman (R-OH) adding in a section on evaluating “foreign interests” in “independent assessment organizations” that are part of the FedRAMP ecosystem.
