Senate approves defense bill establishing cyber doctrine and IT modernization reform, but leaves out elections

The Senate on Monday waved through the fiscal 2018 National Defense Authorization Act establishing a national cybersecurity doctrine and strategy and clearing the way for federal information technology acquisition reform, but did not adopt a proposed amendment addressing election cybersecurity.

The Senate passed the 2018 NDAA on a 89-8 vote, including key defense cyber provisions and an amendment streamlining the process for federal agencies to acquire new technology, including improved cybersecurity.
