Report: U.S. should mandate purchase of cyber insurance for contractors

The U.S. government should mandate, or “incentivize,” the purchase of cybersecurity insurance by all its contractors, according to a new report by an international policy think tank which argues the move would be a low-cost approach to countering foreign and other cyber threats.

“The federal government has a role to play in helping to develop risk models, because it collects data breach information on all cleared contractors (i.e., contractors with access to classified systems) that no private entity can acquire,”...
