NTIA, in review of comments on botnet strategy, cites calls for security 'certification'

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration says some commenters are calling for third-party “certifications” for securing Internet of Things devices, as part of a strategy for mitigating automated attacks, or botnets, being developed under President Trump's cybersecurity executive order.

“While some called for more active government intervention, one popular theme was the role of transparent security practices through independent testing and evaluation,” writes NTIA in a report that summarizes comments on developing a botnet strategy released Monday.
