NSA guidance provides security considerations for transitioning to updated internet protocol

The National Security Agency is offering guidance to agencies on moving to IPv6, an updated internet protocol that adds more capacity for networked devices while exposing opportunities for increased risk.

“Nearly all networked devices use the Internet Protocol (IP) for their communications. IP version 6 (IPv6) is the current version of IP and provides advantages over the legacy IP version 4 (IPv4),” the guide says. NSA released the publication on Jan. 18.
