Justice Dept. finalizes rules on sharing sensitive U.S. bulk data with countries posing national security risks

The Justice Department has finalized rules to establish a process for placing restrictions on the selling of sensitive U.S. bulk data to foreign countries that pose a national security risk, following a period of “extensive” engagements with stakeholders to get feedback.

The rules are a follow-up to President Biden’s February executive order on protecting sensitive U.S. personal bulk data. DOJ published in March an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking followed by an Oct. 29 notice of proposed...
