Industry pushes back on FCC proposal to boost IoT cybersecurity practices through equipment authorizations

Trade groups representing the communications and technology sectors are urging the Federal Communications Commission to halt its examination into using equipment authorization powers to press manufacturers toward improving cybersecurity practices for Internet of Things devices.

The FCC approved a notice of inquiry in June to get input from industry on how the “Commission can leverage its equipment authorization program to encourage manufacturers who are building devices that will connect to U.S. networks to consider cybersecurity standards and guidelines.”
