FERC issues final rule to develop new reliability standards for cyber targeted at bulk power systems

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has approved a final rule to start crafting reliability standards that will require “internal network security monitoring” for bulk power systems in response to the SolarWinds hack.

The update to the Critical Infrastructure Protection Reliability Standards will be crafted by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation and submitted to FERC for final approval. FERC voted and released the final rule at a Thursday commission meeting.
