FERC approves reliability standard for bulk power operators to require internal network security monitoring

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission at its monthly meeting finalized a new reliability standard for bulk power systems on internal network security monitoring and withdrew a proposal to put in place requirements addressing cyber risks in data security.

“INSM is a subset of network security monitoring that is applied within a trust zone, such as a perimeter zone with elevated credentials inside of an entity’s internal network,” the final rule says. The trust zone under the reliability standard covered...
