FCC vote puts pressure on FTC, Congress to act on protecting consumer data

The Federal Communications Commission's 3-2 vote along party lines today to repeal Obama-era rules on open access to the internet puts new pressure on the Federal Trade Commission and Congress to address concerns for consumer data privacy and security.

The repeal of the net-neutrality order as backed by Republican FCC Chairman Ajit Pai returns regulation and enforcement of consumer-data protections back to the FTC, with commissioners from both sides of the aisle calling on Congress to provide clarity and certainty...
