FCC considers updates to submarine cable rules addressing security, resilience

The Federal Communications Commission will vote at its November meeting on a notice of proposed rulemaking to dive into the security and resilience of submarine cables, by undertaking “major comprehensive review” for the first time since 2001.

“Over the last two decades, technology, consumer expectations, international submarine cable traffic patterns, and investment in and construction of submarine cable infrastructure have greatly changed.
