FCC approves final rules to establish national security requirements for certification bodies, launches ownership disclosure rulemaking

The Federal Communications Commission has unanimously approved two rulemakings with national security implications to finalize rules for telecommunication certification bodies and to open a proceeding on foreign ownership disclosure.

On the first rulemaking, the FCC said today, “The rules will ensure that the hundreds of equipment test labs and telecommunications certification bodies – entities that test, review, and certify wireless electronic devices for importation, marketing, and sale in the U.S. – do not have ownership interests that present national security...
