EPA plans to continue ‘exploring opportunities’ for reducing cyber risks following memo withdrawal

The Environmental Protection Agency will continue its work to secure public water systems following the withdrawal of a controversial cyber memorandum that rescinds a requirement for sanitary surveys to include evaluations of operational technology, according to the agency.

EPA issued an “interpretative” memorandum in March that set up requirements for drinking water systems to consider cybersecurity as part of the sanitary survey process. The memorandum was challenged in court by three states and two trade groups and ...
