Demand for Huawei rip-and-replace funding reaches $5.6 billion, based on formal requests to FCC

Eligible providers under the FCC’s Huawei rip-and-replace program have requested a total of $5.6 billion in reimbursement costs, according to FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel who submitted funding details to Congress on Friday.

The demand far exceeds the $1.9 billion provided to the agency through the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2020. The FCC’s three-month window for providers to submit applications for reimbursement ended on Jan. 28.
