Cyber executive order hits one-year mark, meets milestones on supply chain and zero trust; more to come on incident reporting

The federal government has made major progress in producing deliverables from the May 2021 executive order on agency network cybersecurity, establishing policies on zero trust, critical software, and logging events, while leaving open several areas including incident reporting requirements for contractors where more work is expected.

The “Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity” set up several taskings for agencies and an aggressive timeline to meet certain milestones. Today marks the one-year anniversary of the EO.
