California lays out cyber requirements for self-driving cars

Instant breach notification is one of the key aspects of draft regulations from the California Department of Motor Vehicles that put the state on the road toward becoming the first to regulate cybersecurity and privacy in self-driving automobiles.

According to the California DMV, the draft regulations would require manufacturers of self-driving cars to provide written disclosure to vehicle operators of any data collected by the vehicle that is not essential to safe operation.
