Automakers promote industry-driven cyber standards over regulation

Automakers are championing industry-crafted cybersecurity standards set for release in January as a counter to assertions on Capitol Hill that cyber regulation is needed in the auto sector as new – potentially vulnerable – technologies are widely adopted.

The Society of Automotive Engineers International in January will release the “J3061 Cybersecurity Guidebook for Cyber-Physical Vehicle Systems,” for the first time outlining cyber best practices for “complex systems” in vehicles, SAE's Mary Doyle said Thursday.
