Next stop, fines: Uber eligible for civil penalties if it again fails to notify FTC of a breach

The Federal Trade Commission announced Friday a final, expanded, settlement with Uber, under which the failure to notify the FTC of any subsequent data breaches could result in civil penalties, prompting Commissioner Rebecca Slaughter to reiterate the call for greater authorities for the FTC in order to drive better data security practices at the company and across the digital ecosystem.
