NAFTA negotiators agree to add NIST-based cyber principles to revised trade deal

Negotiators have agreed to endorse cybersecurity principles based on the work of the National Institute of Standards and Technology in the digital trade chapter of a revised North American Free Trade Agreement, sources said.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has led the push for similar provisions to be included in a new NAFTA, which is being negotiated by the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The sixth round of talks concluded Monday in Montreal.
