Lawmakers report slow going on competing encryption measures

Lawmakers are moving slowly toward introducing competing proposals to address the intelligence and law enforcement challenges around encrypted technologies that can both help secure the Internet and create "dark spaces" for communications among terrorists and cyber criminals.

"It's very difficult," Senate Intelligence ranking member Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) told Inside Cybersecurity on Wednesday. "The [tech] community rejects any policy, but we agree with FBI Director [James] Comey that the government needs the ability to interdict communications."
