FTC guide seeks to prevent data-security enforcement actions

The Federal Trade Commission announced Tuesday that it has released a new guidance for businesses on cybersecurity and will host its first “Start with Security” conference in San Francisco on Sept. 9.

FTC is a leading federal agency on cybersecurity through its enforcement actions against companies for data breaches and alleged inadequacies in protecting customer and other data. The new guidance is intended to avoid the need for such enforcement lawsuits, according to the FTC.
