Artificial intelligence executive order directs NIST to develop ‘companion’ resource for software security, sets up DHS critical infrastructure requirements

The National Institute of Standards and Technology will develop a “companion” resource guide building on software security work to address generative artificial intelligence, under a requirement from President Biden’s AI executive order.

The EO includes several requirements for NIST to ensure that AI technology is safe and secure. NIST updated and finalized its Secure Software Development Framework in response to the 2021 cyber executive order.
