Industry plan kicks off data privacy regulation debate with FTC at center of brewing fight

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has issued draft legislation for a national data privacy regulatory regime, a move the business group is touting as landmark because of its first-time call for data regulations.

At the core of the proposal is expanded authority for the Federal Trade Commission, and yet perhaps the most significant feature of the plan is its intent to kick off renewed congressional debate on data privacy and security, which is expected to gear up late this month...
