Recent influx of election funding insufficient to meet cyber challenge, state and locals stress

LAS VEGAS. State and local election officials gathered at the “Def Con” conference here warned bluntly that $340 million in recently provided federal election funding is woefully inadequate to meet a spiraling cyber challenge to election systems.

“While I thank the U.S. Congress for appropriating $340 million last month, we need additional resources,” said Alex Padilla, California’s secretary of state. “That’s not new money, that’s 15-year-old Help America Vote Act money.”
