Senators formally offer Secure Elections Act provisions as amendment to defense bill

Sens. James Lankford (R-OK) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) on Friday formally submitted provisions from their Secure Elections Act -- aimed at strengthening the nation's election cybersecurity -- as a proposed amendment to the Senate version of the fiscal 2019 National Defense Authorization Act.

Provisions from the Secure Elections Act included in the amendment are meant to protect against foreign interference by “streamlining” cybersecurity information sharing between federal intelligence entities and state election agencies, and provides for further security clearances to...
