Senators call on Facebook CEO to offer regulatory steps for protecting data, privacy

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was put on notice by senators who said the company's next steps for addressing the misuse of data could determine across-the-board regulations for privacy and security, including a breach-notification requirement.

In response to questions at a joint hearing by the Senate Commerce and Judiciary committees on Tuesday, Zuckerberg said he would submit a list of proposed regulations to address the company's acknowledged missteps in handling data, adding that a 72-hour breach notification rule “makes sense.”
