Senate Homeland Security panel passes DHS reauthorization bill, includes cyber agency language, but not SAFETY Act

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee today approved a first-time Department of Homeland Security reauthorization bill, including an amendment to change the name of the DHS National Protection and Programs Directorate, but not another amendment that would have clarified cybersecurity liability protections under the DHS-administered SAFETY Act.

The bill -- passed by a vote of 10-1 with only Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) objecting -- was amended to include language proposed by Chairman Ron Johnson (R-WI) and ranking member...
